Northern Lights Group
Northern Lights Group is a consortium of seven registered social landlords; Arcon, Arawak Walton, Equity, St Vincent's, Muir, "Johnnie" Johnson and Accent.
The Consortium is principally based in the North West but operates across the whole of the North of England, with some partners also operating in the Midlands and East of England.
The Consortium was formed in response to the Housing Corporation's policy 'Re-inventing Investment', with Accent acting as the lead partner.
Our aim is to bid and receive allocations to develop new homes. So far Northern Lights Group partners have received 20m of Social Housing Grant to produce 593 new or refurbished homes.
Northern Lights Group brings together the expertise of seven independent organisations, opening up new and existing channels of funding.
To date the Northern Lights Group has:
- Increased efficiencies to achieve a reduction in average costs of 10%. This is being achieved through standard products, a single design guide and joint procurement
- Achieved excellent performance on delivery of new homes in the region - each member of the consortium has hit their individual HC targets and submitted in-year bids for further funding
- Looked beyond the development function, and has included stock rationalisation, employment and training schemes and social investment on its agenda
- Implemented clear governance arrangements and legal structure
- Increasing landbanking oppurtunities by pooling resources and joint purchasing
- Broadened the range of development activities to include health and education and undertake larger projects including PFI and regeneration
- Used modern methods of construction to achieve a high quality, economic and sustainable product
