Sowing the seeds to a better environment
28 March 2011Retirement tenants at Tangmere Court in Whalley Range spent the morning out in the sunshine sowing and planting seeds in their communal garden.
Tangmere Court is situated in a conservation area and tenants benefit from outstanding landscaped gardens. Over the years tenants have experimented with growing flowers, fruit and vegetables, growing plums, pears, apples and an array of berries as well as tomatoes and herbs; this year they will be growing French and broad beans .
Maureen Jarvis, the scheme manager said:
“Tenants enjoy the gardens and growing their own fruit and vegetables; it gives them a sense of achievement and is like therapy. Every one benefits including the environment because not only are the tenants saving money they are not generating any miles to get the food to them”
