Making friends at a lunch club!
30 April 2009Groups of older people in Reddish,
Residents of Jubilee Court go to Spey House, owned by "Johnnie" Johnson Housing Trust , once a week to have a hot lunch and make new friends.
The new lunch club followed the launch of Stockport Council's Extra Care Housing partnership initiative. This is a modern alternative to traditional residential care that enables older and vulnerable people to remain living there independently with support from the "Johnnie"
Johnson Scheme Manager and from social care staff employed by Borough Care.
Following discussions and events such as the lunch club, residents from the schemes welcomed the changes that the introduction of Extra Care Housing brought to their schemes and have embraced the opportunities to meet new people and maintain their independence.
Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council, said "I'm delighted that older people in Reddish have welcomed the changes and the many positive outcomes that the implementation of the Extra Care Housing programme has brought. Residents are starting to see the benefits of partnership working in this environment and I hope its success continues to grow".
