Working with Homeless International

06 July 2009

“Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust has teamed up with Homeless International, which funds housing projects across the developing world, as part of its 40th birthday celebrations. The Trust is supporting one of its residents to take part in Trek India to raise funds for charity.

Retired resident Linda Roberts, 55, from Stockport volunteered to take part in the trek and has taken on the role of Charity Ambassador for the Trust. Linda has been visiting the organisation’s housing schemes to drum up support for the event and to raise funds for Homeless International, as well as SSAFA – the Trust’s second nominated charity.

Chief Executive Jim Lunney commented

“As an organization which has social responsibility at the heart of its work, we want to exploit the 40th anniversary to raise as much money as possible for our two nominated charities. In addition to the trek, we have raised funds through a sponsored 40 mile bike ride, as well as generous donations from our corporate partners and various resident parties and events.”

Larry English, Chief Executive for Homeless International said,

“Linda’s enthusiasm in taking part in the trek should be an example to us all that retirement living can still mean a full and active life.

We are delighted that “Johnnie” Johnson Housing is supporting Homeless International through the trek and will also be helping to raise much needed funds for a women’s sanitation project in Tamil Nadu.

It’s great to know that the social housing sector in this country is so willing to not only to help address housing needs within this country, but also to work alongside us on a global scale”.
