Young residents in Cheetham

Young residents plant seeds of friendship in Cheetham

Green fingered young residents of Cheetham braved the dreary rainy weather on the 20 August and got stuck in with plants and trowels to bring a happy community atmosphere to the area.

The event,  co-ordinated by “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust in partnership with Arawark Walton and Northwards Housing, saw 20 young people and their parents creating 30 beautiful potted plants which were then given to local elderly residents.

The young people gathered at Ermington Drive, Cheetham to arrange the plants before presenting residents nearby with their gifts. Local Councillor, Naeem Hassan, supported the event by paying the children a visit while they were hard at work.

Tony Hennon, Housing Services Manager for “Johnnie” Johnson Housing said,

“The day was a great success. Activities such as this really boost community spirit, and the young people who attended enjoyed themselves thoroughly. They all found the activity fun to do and many of them commented that giving the plants away to elderly residents was very rewarding.

This day is intended to be the first of many events in the area as we develop a ‘Green Team’ in Cheetham. Well done to all the children and their parents who gave up their time for a very worthwhile day!”
