40 miles for 40 years
22 September 2009
Staff from “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust (JJHT) joined forces last week to collectively walk 40 miles around Greater Manchester to celebrate the organisations 40th Anniversary; whilst raising nearly £2000 for two worthwhile charities SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailor, Airforce men and Families Associations) and Homeless International.
Beginning on Monday 18 September and taking in over 19 of the Trusts retirement properties along the way the keen ramblers covered ground in Stockport, Tameside, north and south Manchester; with a grand finale at JJHTs head office in Poynton on Friday 21 September.
Adopting a relay style walk, the staff were able to walk as little or as much as they felt able to; many participating in fancy dress. Greeted and cheered on at each property by tenants, who also kept the walkers going with supplies of refreshments, biscuits and cakes!
Head of Retirement Housing Tricia Grierson said:
“Everybody at “Johnnie” Johnson Housing has shown a wonderful willingness to participate in all of our fundraising activities and scheme parties! The relay walk was a great opportunity for staff to visit our schemes and our tenants whilst enjoying raising funds for our two worthwhile causes”.
