A full house at the Citadel!

Meet Jennie our latest resident!
A big welcome from all at JJHT to the Citadel’s newest resident Jennie Franklin. Jennie who is 19 has autism and learning difficulties and has always lived in Stockport with her mum Suzie who is a Family Support Officer for The National Autistic Society. Suzie and the family recently decided that it was time for Jennie to start enjoying her own independence and move out of their family home. With ground breaking funding and support from both Adult Social Services in Stockport and Independent Options, control of Jennie’s care budget has been given to her family and circle of support. This has helped Suzie carefully choose the right carers for Jennie. Jennie’s family have considered various housing options such as shared housing along with people with other learning difficulties, private rented and general let, all of which seemed unsuitable due to Jennie’s vulnerabilities and very specific needs.
Jennie’s Care Manager at Adult Social Services suggested to Suzie that they look around the Citadel complex in Stockport. The last apartment available had 3 bedrooms and a spacious open plan living area, all perfect for Jennie’s needs. Suzie was immediately delighted when she first looked around, the property had the necessary amount of space for Jennie, her team of around the clock carers or family when they stay over and an arts and craft room.
Suzie said, ‘We are all really pleased with the Citadel and happy with how things are progressing, Jennie is very excited’.
Jennie has slowly started making the transition into her new home and JJHT will be on hand to help all the way as Citadel Scheme Manager Caroline Boyle will be available if any problems arise.
This is a brilliant example of JJHT working in partnership with Suzie and Jennie’s circle of support, Independent Options and Adult Social Services to help make a positive difference to Jennie’s life!
