Every Dog has it's day!
04 June 2010And what a beautiful day it was for hosting ‘Cheetham mini crufts’ along with children making hanging baskets for the local community! Staff and residents of Cheetham Housing providers “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust (JJHT), Northwards, Arawak Walton and Tung Sing teamed up to promote positive community integration in the area.
A ‘mini crufts’ event was held on Saturday 22 May at the Cheetwood Centre. The event was staged to promote responsible dog ownership and highlight that many owners and their neighbours care for their dogs. Prizes were awarded to the best dog on show and best entertaining dog. A quiz was also held to test resident’s knowledge on all things canine related.
Alongside the dog show, local children along with their parents helped to make over a hundred brightly coloured hanging baskets that were widely delivered to residents within the community, many of which were to the elderly. A colouring competition also helped to entertain the children on a hot summer’s day.
JJHT’s Housing Services Manager, Tony Hennon said:
“We had a fantastic day with beautiful weather. The community of Cheetham can be very proud of their families and dogs in helping to make the day such a memorable one. We would also like to say a big thank you to the 5 Futures Job Fund workers employed by Groundwork who helped to deliver the hanging baskets and also to Matt Smith from Brighter Blooms who not only purchased and delivered the flowers but ended up running the hanging basket making!
We are already planning our next event and we hope the community continues to respond in such a positive way.”
