Gateshead couple saved from possible homelessness
With the population feeling the effects of the current economic climate, government cuts and living costs continuing to soar many retired people are worrying what the future will bring; with the worst case scenario possibly being homelessness.
One couple that found themselves in a similar situation was Tom and Betty Wood. Their previous home of 43 years was sold by their landlord to re-developers who informed Tom and Betty that they would have to find a new home. Feeling unstable about their future and with possibly homelessness on the horizon they made the decision to look for a more secure environment to live.

Mr and Mrs Wood have moved into one of four newly re-modeled properties; designed to meet the increase in demand for couples wanting to benefit from sheltered housing in the North East and with "Johnnie" Johnson Housing Trust.
Betty commented,
"We have a lovely new home with a new kitchen and bathroom - we didn't even need to decorate it was all done for us! We have no worries now, our family has peace of mind knowing that we are happy and that we have lovely neighbours that all look out for each other. We are just over the moon, we love it!".
