National Older People's Day 2008

"Johnnie" Johnson  Housing celebrated National Older People's Day with a Latin theme!

Residents of Spey House retirement scheme in Reddish danced the day away on Friday 3 October to celebrate this year's National Older People's Day.

"Johnnie" Johnson Housing hosted a Latin themed dance. The event saw a professional team demonstrate dances such as the Cha Cha Cha and the Rumba. The team encouraged tenants, who range in age from 60 up to 101 years, and their guests to join in. Residents also got into the party spirit with cocktails and a themed buffet.

Residents Elizabeth and Norman Taylor said,

"We moved to Spey House because Elizabeth unfortunately suffers from a degenerative illness that needs the support that this scheme can offer. The atmosphere here is fantastic, we have our own private accommodation but you only have to walk out of the door and you see a friend. There is always something going on socially, residents are very happy and the facilities are great".

Peter Daly, Director of Housing Services said,

"This day was all about bringing generations together under the banner 'Full of Life'. All older people should have the chance to lead full, active and productive lives; "Johnnie" Johnson Housing want to challenge outdated stereotypes by promoting positive images of aging and inspire people to see old age as an opportunity to take on a new challenger".

Joining "Johnnie" Johnson Housing on the day was a representative from Borough Care, Stockport Council and Supporting People.
