What sort of account do I need to use Direct Debit?
Any Bank or Building Society current account can be used to pay by Direct Debit. Some special deposit accounts now allow it too – just ask at your branch.
How do I start paying by Direct Debit?
Setting up a Direct Debit form your Bank or Building Society account couldn’t be easier. Simply request a Direct Debit form from our Customer Services Team on 0845 6041095, complete the form and return it to Rent Accounting, Astra House, Spinners Lane, Poynton, SK12 2LZ. We will update our records and forward it to your Bank/Building Society and we will write to you at least 10 days before any money is requested from your account.
What happens if my rent payment changes – do I need to tell the bank?
No, you don’t need to do anything. We will simply request the new payment from your Bank or Building Society, when it is due.
Can I cancel a Direct Debit Instruction?
Yes. You can cancel an instruction in writing to your Bank or Building society. Please also send us a copy of your letter so that our records remain up to date.
Will I remain in control of the payments?
Yes. We will always inform you 10 working days in advance if there are to be any changes to either the amount due or the payment date, so you can always either query or stop the payment.
What happens if a mistake is made?
In the unlikely event of an error being by us or your Bank/Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund (see The Direct Debit Guarantee below).
How can I be sure that the rent has been paid?
Direct Debit payments will appear on your Bank or Building Society statement. For any further information, just contact your branch.
The Direct Debit Guarantee
This guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored by your own Bank or Building Society.
- This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits
- If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, "Johnnie" Johnson Housing will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request "Johnnie" Johnson Housing to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request
- If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by "Johnnie" Johnson Housing or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society
- If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when "Johnnie" Johnson Housing asks you to
- You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
