Sue Lock (Vice Chair and Chair Designate)

Sue is an experienced housing professional and leader, having served on housing associations and charity boards since the late 1980s. Including the CIH North West Regional Committee as Vice Chair and Chair, and a Nationally Elected Member of the CIH Board. She has also Chaired Local Housing Consortiums, task and finish committees etc.

Sue’s first job after graduating from Sheffield Hallam was with the Housing Regulator The Housing Corporation. Her first front line role in Housing was with Places for People as a Housing Officer. Her experience at Executive level includes being CEO of Wulvern Housing a stock transfer housing association where she successfully achieved transfer and implemented cultural change programs, structured finance deals, and large development and improvement programs. Following the merger with The Guinness Partnership in January 2017 she became Director of Strategy for Old People retiring from full time roles in May 2018.

Sue is also a Non-Executive Director (NED) on two other boards including the Audit and Assurance, and Operations Committees of The Extra Care Charitable Trust, a national specialist older person’s charitable housing association providing mixed tenure retirement villages with integrated landlord services and care, charity shops and a large volunteer network. Sue is also a Statutory Board Appointee on a special needs lease based housing association. This is her third Statutory Appointment. As a NED she has gained wide and varied experience of working at a strategic level managing through others to ensure the organisations objectives are achieved in line with the vision and purpose. Including significant experience of implementing governance reviews, corporate planning and monitoring, ensuring controls, scrutiny and challenge are maintained to the highest standards giving confidence to customers and stakeholders.

Sue is a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and a member of Johnnie Johnson Developments Limited and feels passionately about the organisation. She is also the Vice Chair of JJH Board and in this role she will work with the Chair and Chief Executive to further strengthen culture and values and deliver its ambitious corporate plan ensuring customers are at the heart of what we do.
