Greater Manchester Housing Providers further their commitment to support Armed Forces veterans and their families

Greater Manchester Combined Authority held its inaugural Armed Forces Summit back in May, where the region's housing providers pledged their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and committed to deliver a ‘guaranteed minimum offer’ to veterans and their families.

Areas of focus included offering priority housing, employment and apprenticeship opportunities to both veterans and their families. To further enhance the work done so far, Greater Manchester Housing Providers will gather at the Imperial War Museum North on 25th October to further discuss how collectively as a group they can deliver against the covenant.

During the day, attendees will hear keynote presentations from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and Warren Smith, Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, on how providers can support at both a regional and local perspective. Discussions will take place around pathways in to housing and collaboration with other support organisations, including Walking with the Wounded and Nacro, to ensure we can signpost effectively.

The event will also showcase a number of suppliers and support organisations, providing a chance for attendees to learn more about how signposting can add value to their services and delivery against the covenant.

About Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP)

Established as a group in 2010, they are substantial investors in Greater Manchester communities, and in recent years have been delivering around 40% of new homes across Greater Manchester.  Many of their tenants are key to the success of their strategies and interventions on a wide range of issues such as health and social care, employment and skills, fuel poverty and the ageing population.  As organisations, individually and collectively, GM Housing Providers are already active on all those agendas and more.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA)

Greater Manchester (GM) is one of the country's most successful city-regions. Home to more than 2.7 million people and with an economy bigger than that of Wales or Northern Ireland, their vision is to make it one of the best in the world. They’re getting there through a combination of economic growth, and the reform of public services.

The GMCA is made up of the ten Greater Manchester councils and Mayor, who work with other local services, businesses, communities and other partners to improve the city-region. The GMCA gives local people more control over issues that affect their area. It means the region speaks with one voice and can make a strong case for resources and investment. It helps the entire north of England achieve its full potential.
