What is Universal Credit?

Universal Credit is a single payment to help with your living costs, if you are on a low income of out of work. It will eventually replace six of the existing welfare benefits that will be phased out.

Universal Credit is a single payment to help with your living costs, if you are on a low income of out of work.

It will eventually replace six of the existing welfare benefits that will be phased out, including:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Working Tax Credit

Apart from those mentioned above, Universal Credit does not replace any other benefits.
