What is it like to work at Johnnie Johnson Housing?

Find out more about some of the roles within the organisation, and what our colleagues have to say about their jobs.

Sebastian | Graduate Content Designer

I usually work on a few projects at the same time. I spend a lot of time researching and brainstorming ideas for the videos and graphic design that I produce, and always ensure they meet the required tone, style, and message before publishing anything. I visit a lot of our properties for filming.

What I particularly like about the culture at JJH is the emphasis on teamwork and inclusivity. Every member of the team is valued and respected, and there is a strong sense of community within the organisation.

JJH is rooted in a strong set of values …that I believe are key to creating a positive and supportive work environment, that allows individuals to thrive and grow both personally and professionally.

Tamara | Communications and Marketing Advisor

I create a lot of our ‘offline’ communications for residents including our resident magazine, Voices and materials such as Rent review packs, leaflets, posters and letters to name but a few. I am also responsible for internal communications - keeping colleagues informed of the latest resident and organisational news through a number of different channels.

I enjoy the variety in my job. I love engaging with colleagues from all areas of the organisation, as well as getting to know our fantastic residents. I am learning every day and I have an incredibly supportive Leader and team.

There is a real can-do attitude across the organisation and everyone always pulls together on projects. We work hard for the good of our residents and colleagues, but there is also a great degree of flexibility and the recognition that we all have a life outside of work.

Chris | Project Manager

Most of my day is spent talking with stakeholders about various pieces of work. I may also be presenting information and updates to colleagues. I also have project meetings with third parties, so my days can range from very informal to more formal.

I come into the office about once a week depending on what I am working on. I also take part in the Customer First Steering Group once a month.
The culture is very trusting and empowering. There is an open-mindedness which makes problems solving and new ideas welcomed.

Gill | Technical Services Manager

My role is very varied, from assisting the Service Desk team with tickets raised, helping colleagues with IT issues and delivering projects, to dealing with finances , looking at customer feedback and ways we can improve the service we deliver through best practice. You never know what’s going to come up in day, as IT is always developing and changing. There is a really friendly culture and everyone is willing to muck in to get a job done.

Yvonne - our CEO lives the values of the company. She is really passionate about ‘celebrity service’ for all residents .This is seen on a daily basis through her interaction with all she meets.

Jordan - Building Services Lead

What I most enjoy about my job is the problem solving – the satisfaction of listening to a resident’s needs and requirements, being able to act on that and complete repairs or upgrades in-line with their expectations.

I am responsible for ensuring compliance, repairs, upgrades and installations are carried out in line with JJH company values and processes. I cover asbestos, water hygiene, passenger lifts and all things electrical.

I enjoy the work life balance at JJH with the 4.5 day condensed week, and knowing that I can reach out to anyone across the organisation for help - no matter how senior that colleague may be.
