Greater Manchester Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, so what is it?

The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) is Government funding that will support the installation of energy performance measures in social homes in England.

The fund was set up to help decarbonise the UK’s social housing stock to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and increase the energy efficiency of homes.

How will Johnnie Johnson Housing benefit from the scheme?

In March 2023 it was officially confirmed that Johnnie Johnson Housing had been awarded grant funding of £267,414 as part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority bid. JJH will spend around 600k over the next 2 years to improve 60 homes. Securing funds through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2.1 is fantastic, it’s a step forward on our important journey to provide sustainable green homes for our residents.

This additional funding means we can improve more properties than we had originally planned. At its core, the funding will allow us to bring the benefits of more energy efficient improvements to even more residents. The Project will begin in April 2023 and will be completed over 2 years.

How will this positively affect household energy bills?

As homes are upgraded with agreed improvements our residents will begin to see positive changes to their household energy bills. Not only this, but the works will also provide noticeable improvements to their homes such as draft reduction. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) estimates that the upgrades will save an average of £276.78 on each home’s annual bill thanks to moving the average EPC Band from D to C.

These measures will reduce the costs of heating and lighting which is something that, now more than ever, our residents are deeply concerned about.
