Johnnie Johnson Housing are set to continue with their new homes development programme with eleven new bungalows for older people in Doncaster. The green light was given by the Council yesterday.

The homes will be designed specifically to meet the needs of older people and will incorporate a number of energy efficiency and sustainable design features including energy efficient boilers, thermally efficient windows, doors and insulation.

Mayor Rose Jones said: “We are looking forward to work getting underway on the new housing in Woodlands. The development is part of our commitment to providing good quality, modern housing provision that meets the needs of everyone in our community.”

“This is another development which offers suitable accommodation for our increasing ageing population and follows hot on the heels of construction work starting on a high quality extra-care scheme for older people in Thorne last month.”

Ian Thomson, Executive Director of Assets and Investment at Johnnie Johnson Housing added “We are delighted to be building our next new development in Doncaster, this is part of our successful 102 bid to HCA across Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, High Peak and East Cheshire and we hope to have construction underway by September. Johnnie Johnson Housing are committed to delivering affordable, quality homes for independent living, with a focus on people living longer, living better for as long as possible.”

The new homes will be let at an affordable rent to people on St Leger Homes waiting list. They will be advertised through the Doncaster HomeChoice website: www.doncasterhomechoice.co.uk
