National Apprenticeship Week 2021

First Published: 11/02/2021

Hiring an apprentice is an opportunity for any organisation to invest in their workforce, develop career opportunities and bring in new talent with fresh perspective and new ideas.

Karen Leigh-Whiston, Head of HR for Johnnie Johnson Housing, said: “Apprenticeships bring fantastic opportunities for those seeking a new career to learn whilst working. At Johnnie Johnson Housing, we have taken on two apprentices in our HR and Marketing departments. We are really pleased that both apprentices are likely to go on to secure roles in the organisation, and due to the success of these apprenticeships we will definitely be exploring new opportunities, to utilise this approach in the future.”

As it is National Apprenticeship Week, we have asked our two talented apprentices to share their experience!

Daniel Davies – Digital Marketing Apprentice

“My apprenticeship with Johnnie Johnson Housing has given me the opportunity to gain a qualification in Digital Marketing, whilst gaining valuable work experience. I have worked with the housing association for the last 18 months, and this experience has helped me to adapt to a variety of scenarios and develop a wide range of skills. I am happy with the progress I have made during this time, and I am now looking forward to starting my new role in the team.”

Daniel Davies has completed his apprenticeship and has been offered a permanent, fixed-term contract, within the Marketing Team.

Gemma Whitehurst – Human Resource Apprentice

“I was working at Johnnie Johnson Housing in an administrative role when the opportunity for a Human Resource Apprentice became available. I really wanted to begin a career in Human Resources and thought this was a great chance for me to gain valuable knowledge, experience and skills whilst also working towards a CIPD qualification. Over the last 12 months I have successfully completed eight different assignments covering several aspects of the Human Resource’s function and am soon to complete my final project. I have gained experience and I hope to keep building on my knowledge and use what I have learnt to establish a successful career.”
