Northern social housing provider proud to support veterans on Armed Forces Day

First Published: 25/06/2021

Armed Forces Day is a day dedicated to showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. At Johnnie Johnson Housing, we are proud to support those who have served in the Armed Forces to settle into civilian life and find jobs and homes.

As a member of the Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP), we work in partnership with housing providers and local authorities to fulfil our promise under the Armed Forces Covenant

We ask anyone who comes to us in search of housing or work, if they have served in any of the services, at any stage of their lives, even if only for one day. If the answer is yes and they meet the essential criteria, we can offer them priority housing, guarantee relevant job interviews and signpost them to further support where needed.

We know that providing just housing is not enough to support veterans, this is why we offer assistance from how to pay bills and claim benefits, to welfare advice and more. There is a lot we can do to help veterans settle into civilian life.

Neil Murphey, an Armed Forces veteran who recently moved into a Johnnie Johnson Housing flat, said: “I am very happy living here. The flat is beautiful and the area and the neighbours I have met are really friendly and helpful. It’s the best move I have ever made.”
